Malpas Seniors League Complete
All of the fixtures in the Malpas Seniors League are now complete.
Congratulations to Chester Rd A who finished 2nd in Division 1; Chester Rd B who finished 3rd in Division 2 and Chester Rd C who also finished 3rd in Division 3.
President’s Day 2022
Today, Sunday 18th September 2022 was our President’s Day. A day when Club Members and guests get together to raise funds for a charity. This year’s charity is Blood Cancer Research and 36 Members and guests turned up for a doubles tournament.
Altogether £144 was raised from the bowling, which also included the now infamous “Spider”. Profits from the sale of food is still to be added to this.
The overall winners were Peter Crump and Colin Meikle (again? I hear you say, hmm and just who is in charge of the pairings??…………………….) and the runners up were Jackie Vaughan and Jim Quinlan.

President’s Day 2022 will be on Sunday 18th September. A sign up sheet is on the Club noticeboard. 10 for 10:30 start. Everyone welcome. Refreshments will be available.

3rd and final leg of the Intra Club Sunday League.
Today was the final leg of the Intra Club Sunday League when the Marvels played the Old Dribblers and the All Stars played the Rascals.
Today’s results were:
Marvels: 7; Old Dribblers: 4.
All Stars: 4; Rascals: 7.

A small shield was also awarded for the MVP (Most Valuable Player) across the 4 teams and the 3 occasions. This was won by George Edge but he’d left by the time we got to Prize Giving. Well done George.

2nd leg of Intraclub Sunday League
Today was the second leg of the Sunday League. Quite a difference in the weather from last time. The sun shone and it was glorious.
Today, the All Stars played the Old Dribblers and the Rascals played the Marvels. There is still all to play for going into the last match day on 4th September with only 2 points separating the top 3 teams. However, the All Stars aren’t out of it yet if they can muster success in September.
Today’s results were as follows:
Marvels 5, Rascals 6 and
All Stars 5, Old Dribblers 6.
The League Table now stands as follows:

Inaugural meeting of Chester Road Sunday League
Colin Meikle our stalwart Competition Organiser, decided that he would like to try starting an Intraclub Sunday League and set about conning (err sorry, recruiting and persuading) 24 gullible people to participate. The 24 have been split into 4 permanent teams of 6 with the unlikely names of: The Old Dribblers; the All Stars; the Marvels and the Rascals. The idea is that each team will play each other team over 3 Sundays spread across the remainder of the season.
The format of the competition is 6 singles, 3 doubles and 2 triples with a point being available for each winning team in each contest. Meaning there are a maximum of 11 points available between the 2 teams competing.
Today was the first leg of the League and most games were played in the rain. I think everyone enjoyed the competition in spite of the weather which only goes to prove we really are all crazy.
Today, the Rascals beat the Old Dribblers 6 games to 5 and the Marvels beat the All Stars 8 games to 3. So currently the League Table stands as follows:

Long term, Colin is hopeful that the concept can grow and expand in future years. Come along and watch even if you don’t play to get a feel for it.

St Alkmunds Trophy and St Alkmunds consolation cup.
There was success yesterday for 2 Chester Road players in the St Alkmunds trophy and St Alkmunds consolation cup – a competition run under the umbrella of the Whitchurch League.
The trophy was won by Dee Simcock and her partner Mike Mullock whilst the consolation cup was won by Dot Charlesworth and Jamie Brookes.
Dot has particularly asked me to thank the two Ann’s for providing the refreshments and Irene’s coffee and walnut cake was mentioned in dispatches!
