Malpas Seniors League – Jeff Carter Trophy

Our C Team in the Malpas Seniors League was once again triumphant today in the Jeff Carter Trophy having also won it the last time it was played for in 2019.

The final was held this afternoon (13th July 2022) in glorious weather between Chester Rd C and Malpas Farmers B on the front green at District.

The competition was hard fought and played in good spirit. Chester Road triumphed by 75 points to 61.

Unfortunately nobody thought to take a team photograph but the winning team was:

Jim Quinlan,
Christine Quinlan,

Richard Lewis.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen (and a few Scots)

In spite of the incredibly high temperatures on Sunday, 14 people turned up for the mystery fun day, which was organised heroically again by Colin Meikle.

The pairs bowled all day and were kept hydrated with gallons of water.

The competition was won by Colin Meikle and Sue Fawcett.

Thringles Fun Day 26th June.

Well, we hadn’t anticipated playing Thringles but there just happened to be 27 people who turned up for the Fun Day. This meant we could be divided into 3 groups of 9, allowing 4 games per group. I’m not going to try and explain the rules of Thringles here, but suffice it to say that this produced a winner from each group who then played off in a final for a CUP!

There are some photos in the photo gallery here, but spoiler alert, the overall winner was David Vaughan.

2 dates for your social diary – June 26th and July 10th

26th June 2022 – Triples Fun Day

for Chester Road Members and guests. “Three times the fun of singles” 10:30 until we’re done so it might be a good idea to bring a packed lunch. The draw will be made on the day with players seeded to attempt to ensure teams are balanced.

£3.00 entry per person. Please arrive by 10:00am to enable a prompt start.

There is a sign-up sheet on the club notice-board or you can sign-up here. Please sign-up in advance.

10th July 2022 – Mystery Fun Day

again for Chester Rd members and guests. Please sign-up in good time as the format will be decided based on the number of participants. This will again be 10:00 for 10:30 so again it’ll probably be a good idea to bring a packed lunch.

Jeff Carter Trophy 2022

The C team had a very enjoyable, and successful, afternoon yesterday playing in the first round (which is also the quarter finals) of the Jeff Carter trophy in the Malpas Seniors League.

The Jeff Carter Trophy is a doubles team competition, something that we don’t get much opportunity to play in the normal course of events, and is played on a neutral green. We were cheerfully hosted by Cunliffe Bowling Club which not many of us had been to before. It therefore lived up to its neutrality in spades but turned out to be a beautiful green to play.

The weather also smiled on us despite Irene’s weather app telling us we were in for some thunder and lightning. We decided to put our faith in Christine’s app which promised sunshine and clouds. This is what was mostly delivered with just a couple of smatterings of showers.

Unfortunately I didn’t think to take any photographs so those of you who know the ground will just have to use your imagination.

Open Day/ Big Bowls Weekend 2022

We held our Big Bowls Open Day today. Shame about the rain early on, but once it brightened up we had a few new people dropping in and a number of Members who came along for a game and a chat and of course tea and cake.
