Really happy to report that the new competition mentioned a couple of posts ago was won by one of our own. Well done and congratulations to Margaret Mason who beat another one of our own, Marlene Yarwood in a gripping final.

Colin Paxton Trophy
There is an opportunity for anyone who is registered to play in the Malpas Seniors League to enter the first round of the Colin Paxton Trophy this Wednesday (17th May) at Farndon.
This is a draw-for-partners doubles competition, just turn up at 10:45am for the draw. Entry fee just £1. There are no scheduled League matches on this date to facilitate entries.

New Whitchurch League competition for players in lower divisions.
We have just been advised about a brand new competition for individuals who play in Divisions 4, 5 and 6. It is called the Challenge Cup. Now here’s the rub – it is this Saturday (13th May) and is taking place at Chester Road small green from 10.00AM. So lots of notice! If you want to enter and are eligible you must ring Richard Proudlove on 07725 131713.
Best as I can fathom the entry fee will be £10. I do know that light refreshments will be available to buy.

Coronation Bowls Tea Party
Yesterday we held a Coronation Bowls Tea Party at the Club. The weather smiled on us and everybody had a good day.
The day was organised by Bob and Dot Charlesworth and they made a good proportion of the food so many thanks to them. Other members also provided food both savoury and sweet supplies so we weren’t short of sustenance. The 2 Ann’s turned up as always, to help with the teas and coffees; open the bar and help with the food and, most importantly, the clearing up, so many thanks to them.
We had 22 playing members and just the right number to enable a mixed doubles, round robin tournament with the group winners playing off in the final.
Finalists were Amanda Johnson & Mark Glover v Di Nelson & Mark Mason. With Di and Mark eventually winning the day. Well done to them. They were then deluged with small prizes by our organiser in chief – Bob. Amongst the prizes, were Coronation mugs, flags and after that I lost the plot! But they got big Union Jack carrier bags to carry their loot home.
