It’s October and the summer outdoor bowls season is over.
For anybody wanting to keep their eye in over the winter and to keep in touch with other bowlers socially, the indoor bowls in the Sports Hall in Whitchurch Civic Centre has now started.
Whitchurch Short-mat Indoor Bowls Club meets on Mondays over the winter. Two sessions are held each week, one at 12:30 for 1pm and one at 6:30 for 7:00 pm. Anyone is welcome, whether experienced or not. People used to Crown Green bowling can play with their outdoor woods, newcomers can borrow woods if needed. All we ask is that you bring along flat soled indoor shoes to protect the mats. – Some people bowl in bedroom slippers so no expensive outlay is required.
Each session usually lasts about 3 hours and the format is a “draw for partners” round robin doubles competition.
The cost is £2.50 per session and the cost includes tea and biscuits. We’re a friendly lot, so why not drop in one Monday and give it a go, we’d love to see you.
