Indoor bowling in the Whitchurch Civic Centre has now broken up for Christmas.
Bowling resumes on 7th January 2019 but if you can’t find us in the Sports Hall, please dig a little deeper. There is maintenance work going on in the Sports Hall and nobody quite knows when it will be complete so the bowling may be moved to the main auditorium.
Times as usual, – 12:30 for 1pm or in the evening 6:30 for 7pm.
As many of you will know, indoor short-mat bowls sessions are held during the winter season on Mondays in the Market Hall in Whitchurch Civic Centre.
Numbers have been tailing off recently and we need YOU to help keep the Club active and vibrant. It’s a very enjoyable way to spend a winter afternoon or evening, catching up with people from other clubs and keeping your eye in ready for the summer outdoors. Skill and touch are the name of the game rather than brute force. After all, you have to avoid that pesky piece of wood in the middle of the lane.
Everything you need to know
Sessions are held on Monday afternoons 1:00pm until 4:00pm
and Monday evenings 7:00pm until 10:00pm in the Market Hall/Sports Hall in Whitchurch Civic Centre.
Please arrive up to 30 mins earlier to allow for the draw for partners. Because you will be playing a series of games with a partner, it is essential that you can stay for the whole session. There is no commitment to come every week.
Sessions cost £2 per head and this includes tea and biscuits.
Smooth, flat soled shoes are essential to protect the carpet. Many people play in their bedroom slippers. You don’t need special woods, just bring what you use in the summer. People who are new to bowling will be able to borrow woods.
There is a break for Christmas. This year the last session before Christmas will be on 10th Dec. On that day, bowling will start at 12:00 noon to allow for our Christmas “fuddle”. It’s unclear when bowling will recommence in January because of maintenance work planned for the hall. At the moment it is hoped to restart on 7th January, but watch this space or check with the Civic Centre reception.
Some of you may have seen the notice on the Bowling Results Website about a new short-mat bowling club starting up in Shrewsbury on THURSDAY evening this week. It is to be held at the Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne, in the long mat bowling venue. Sessions start at 7pm and cost £3. It will probably be advisable to arrive a little early. Everyone is welcome and you can read more here http://bowlingresults.co.uk/barlows/
Today was the first day of the indoor bowls season held in the Market Hall / Sports Hall in Whitchurch Civic Centre.
If you missed it, don’t worry, you can come along next week or any Monday that takes your fancy. Sessions start at 1pm and 7pm respectively, but try to be there 20-30 minutes early to allow time to draw for partners. The cost is still only £2 per session and that includes tea and biscuits.
The Club held it’s annual President’s Day today. A good number of Members enjoyed a Round Robin bowling competition and at the same time managed to raise £400 for charity from a raffle and the sale of food. The cash was donated to the Whitchurch First Responders.
There are a few more photos in the photo gallery but here are the winners Margaret Cooper and Colin Meikle after receiving their prizes from our President David Fisher.
As the season draws to it’s close we would like to congratulate our C team who have been playing in Division 3 in the Barlows Senior League. After a nail biting wait for the final results to be posted, our team finished second in their division and should be promoted to Division 2 next season.
Well done everyone!
Congratulations also to Preston Brockhurst B, who topped the leader board and to Malpas Farmers who finished 3rd and gave us a run for our money.
