Whitchurch Party in the Park 2019

This year’s Party in the Park is to be held on Saturday 8th June in Jubilee Park Whitchurch from 1pm. You can find out more information here https://whitchurch.info/events/party-in-the-park-8th-june-2019/ but the event showcases local music talent, community and craft stalls, food and drink and provides fun and entertainment for everyone.

Because of the increased interest in bowling as a sport from young people, Chester Road Bowling Club will be having a stall especially aimed at teenagers, young adults and families with young teenagers. There will be an opportunity to test out some bowls and hopefully to have a go at “wild” bowling in the park. Unfortunately this won’t be anything like the experience of a real Green so we hope to be able to offer interested people the opportunity to visit the Club the following day and try it out on one of our 2 greens.

Find us near the Park Avenue entrance to the Park between 1pm and 6pm.

Success for 2 of our Juniors

Two of our junior players, Jack and Eilidh, have recently been asked to represent Shropshire at 3 different junior tournaments.
Jack will be playing for Shropshire juniors on 9th June in Huddersfield and also at the British Parks competition on 30th June. Eilidh has been asked to play in a North Shropshire Ladies team at a junior tournament taking place in Northwich on Saturday 29th June. Eilidh in particular, is very new to the sport and we are delighted to see her enjoying the sport and getting on so well so quickly.
Congratulations to both of them for being selected and we wish them very good luck.

It just shows that bowling isn’t just for oldies, juniors enjoy it too and any other youngsters who are interested in trying it are very welcome to come along and see.
We will be having a stall at the upcoming Party in the Park in Whitchurch on 8th June so why not come along and find out more.

H Team – Whitchurch League

After a long time struggling to field 8 teams in the Whitchurch League the Club has reluctantly withdrawn their H Team from the Whitchurch League today. We hope that any displaced team members will find homes in one of the remaining 7 teams in this League and/or in a team in another of the 6 Leagues the Club plays in and urge them to continue to keep their bowling nights free as somebody is sure to need them.
Christine Quinlan, the erstwhile captain of the H team, has expressed her thanks to those players who have turned up every week through thick and thin and who have frequently moved willingly to fill gaps in other teams. Without this willingness to put the Club first, the other teams above the H team would themselves have struggled.
So here’s to the H team!

Triples Charity Day

30 bowlers gathered on Sunday to enjoy a charity Triples Round Robin Fun Day. Many of the Club’s Members had never played triples before and were a little apprehensive about how it would work with the prospect of 12 woods clustering around a single jack and not knowing how the scoring would work.
In the event, it worked really well and everybody had a good time. We were fortunate with the weather too with it staying dry for the duration.
Congratulations to the winners: Colin, Eilidh and Bob and the runners-up: Dee, Dot and Sam.
Thanks also to Colin and his family for organising and running the competition, to David Fisher for providing many of the prizes and to Members too numerous to mention for making and helping with serving, the refreshments.
We raised £280 for a local charity. We’ll report back when a final decision has been made about which charity will receive the dosh.

Charity Fun Day TRIPLES Round Robin Competition

We are having a Charity Fun Day on Sunday 19th May 2019 when we will hold a Triples Round Robin Bowling Competition.

The day is open to Members and friends and only costs £3 per entry. There is a pre-sign-up sheet on the club noticeboard but don’t worry if you decide on the day – just turn up by 10:00am to draw for partners.

Refreshments will be available and there will be a prize draw.

We’ll see you there!

New Players Required

Well the season has got underway to a good start but we are always looking for new players. If you are toying with the idea of taking up bowling please do get in touch with our Secretary on 07429 519869 or just pop in to the club when it is open and have a chat.
If you are an existing Member and have any friends or relatives who might be interested, please bring them along to have a go.
Nobody will push you to join a team until you feel ready and we have people who can show you how to bowl and lend you equipment to start you off.
It really is a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon or evening.

Ever thought you’d like to go up to the club for a practice but not sure if a green will be free? Well wonder no more. You can now check green bookings/availabilty from the menu link on this website.
The information is restricted to club members only so you will need a password to access it. You can obtain the password from the club next time you are there (check out the note on the rink bookings sheets), or you can obtain it from the webmaster by emailing here.

Weather’s improved

Well the weather has improved – I knew it would when I went out and bought some waterproof over-trousers. Although putting that into words may jinx it again. Am I really so superstitious?

The small green seems to be running beautifully at the moment so fingers crossed that I can get the hang of it since all 4 of my matches this week are on it.

I’d really like to try and find one or two members who are good at blogging (and enjoy it) to contribute to this page, so if you’re that person can you contact the webmaster and offer your services?………
