AGM 2025
AGM papers have now gone out, mostly by email. Due to horrible weather over the past few years, the committee have decided that this year’s AGM should be held during the day. It is therefore scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday 18th January 2025 at the Club. Please try and attend, as this year is an important year for the Club to set it’s future direction and operating procedures given the retirement of its longstanding Secretary, Ann Mitchell, from the role.

President’s Day 2024
President’s Day 2024 was held at the Club on Sunday 29th September. 20 bowlers participated in a draw-for-partners doubles round-robin-tournament. The weather was cold but dry. The winners were Sue Simcock and her partner Gary Jones and the runners up were John Mitchell and Walter Schafer.
Many thanks to all the “worker bees” who made the day possible.

Coffee Morning reminder
Remember the Club is having a fund raising coffee morning on Friday 20th September from 9:30 am at the Archibald Worthington Club in town. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the bar or pay on the day at the door.
To help the organisers, anyone bringing cakes or other produce to sell are asked to bring them direct on the day for 9:30am. Produce, means anything from plants to jars of jam; fruit to veg; chutney to tins of beans. Anything welcome. We hope to see a lot of you there.
Quiz evening 7th Sept 2024
A very successful quiz was held at the bowling club on Saturday 7th September. It was well supported by aspiring quizzers with eight tables having five or more people on each table.
Bob Cliff was the quiz master, who delivered four subject specific rounds , three general knowledge rounds and a picture round.
The raffle was drawn at half time and a ‘Heads and Tails ‘ game was held which proved to be both lucrative and entertaining.
A supper of chip baps and desserts concluded the half time break to be followed by the last quiz rounds.
A sociable and entertaining evening was had by all and hopefully raised much needed funds for the club .
The winning quiz team was ‘Alfie’s Fan Club ‘ with a winning score of 60.
Very many thanks to all of the helpers (you know who you are), all of whom were too busy and having a good time to take any photos!
It’s encouraging that social evenings such as these attract both bowlers and their friends and any other ideas/suggestions for other events would be welcomed.
Summer Fun Day Handicap Competition Sat 31st Aug 2024
We had a Fun Day on Saturday 31st Aug. with a slightly different format to our usual fun days. This one was a Singles Handicap and everyone brought a plate of food for sharing. The sun shone on us although there was a brisk breeze blowing. Losers in the first round were automatically entered in a Consolation Cup so everyone got at least two games of bowls.
16 people entered the competition with Richard Sheasby winning the Cup and Dee Simcock as runner up. Mike McKeown won the Consolation prize with John Mitchell runner-up. There are some photos below but we really need a new photographer in chief because the present one (me) is rubbish. All applications in sealed envelopes to me anytime you please.

Summer Handicap competition
We are holding a handicapped singles bowls competition on Saturday 31st August 2024 at the Club. Bring a plate – of food that is, for sharing in a buffet lunch.
These are just examples
Everyone welcome, especially new members. A good way to get to know a few more people and the “playing field” will be levelled by the handicap. There is a sign-up sheet in the club, please add your name so that we can get an idea of numbers.
Bowling will start at 11:00 am prompt. Please be there by 10:45 for the draw. £3 entry fee + your plate of food. Bring an extra £1 for the “spider” at the end.
